IS THERE A WASHING MACHINE?
Yes we provide a washing service. For a small fee (€15 per load for a wash) your washing will be washed for you and returned the same day. We provide environmentally friendly clothes airers for you to dry your washing outside in the sun in each property. If you prefer to use the tumble dryer, then there is an additional €15 fee for drying.
IS THERE A HAIR DRYER?
Yes, each property is equipped with a hairdryer.
CAN WE DRINK THE WATER?
The water here is tested regularly and perfectly safe to drink. It is, however, chlorinated (to the levels required by law), which means that it does taste of chlorine. We find that a simple charcoal filter bottle (like the ones for the gym) removes the chlorine taste and eliminates any need to buy water in plastic bottles.
MY CHILDREN ARE OLDER – DO YOU JUST CATER FOR YOUNGER CHILDREN ?
We have lots of facilities for children of all ages (and fun loving adults!).
There is the lovely large pool, with a slide and floating bean bags, and the pool is ideal for water polo etc. The play lawn has swing ball, zip slide, mini climbing wall, table tennis, badminton, boule, ball games, tyre swings and lots of space to let off steam. There are also adventure walks into the woods and local countryside from the farm and plenty of interesting places to do and see things in the local area; castles in Assisi, boating on lake in Trasimeno, the cable car up the mountain & market day in Gubbio, a day trip on the train to Rome, the water park at Foligno, a day trip to the beach, and much more… We are a perfectly set up for older children, the villa is surrounded by a play field and beautiful countryside which offers more responsible, older kids the freedom to roam, explore, play and have adventures with other children.
I WOULD LIKE TO RELAX ON HOLIDAY – DO YOU OFFER MAID SERVICE/CLEANERS?
If you stay 2 weeks or longer – then a clean and linen change is included in your stay at the end of each week. We can also arrange for someone to clean, change beds, do the washing up or washing and ironing – whatever you require at any time during your stay. Maid service charges are €16 an hour with a minimum 2 hour booking. (Please book in advance of your stay)
WE DON’T WANT TO COOK – WHAT ARE THE OPTIONS?
Delicious lasagne can be ordered any night of the week, the local shops (5 mins by car) offer a good deli, bakery & cheese shop, there is also a good local butcher & grocer and you have your own gas BBQ. There is a local pizza place (take out available) and a great local restaurant, both around 10 mins away by car. There are a wealth of good restaurants in and around Gubbio within a 15- 25 min drive. We also offer delicious fresh bread and croissant delivery 6 days a week in time for breakfast. See our food page for further information.
IS YOUR POOL SAFE – GATED AND FENCED?
Our pool is gated and fenced for safety- to stop little ones getting in and out. The pool is also set back into the hillside (in a lovely south-facing sun bathed position) so that it is separate from the play area and rental properties. We also have anti-slip paving around the pool – so even the smallest of tots can walk safely around the pool and the terraces.
IS THE POOL HEATED?
We have a splash pool for younger children that has solar heated water, so is a nice temperature for younger ones to play in all day. The main pool isn’t heated, but usually maintains pleasant swimming temperatures of 22-28 degrees throughout the summer months.
HOW DO I GET TO THE VILLA? NEAREST AIRPORT?
The nearest airports are Perugia and Ancona – Ryan Air fly from London Stansted to both these airports. (Perugia flights are available on Friday all year round, but often only in peak summer months Saturday -) British Airways also fly to Perugia from London Heathrow. Easy Jet fly from Gatwick to Ancona (summer only). There are often 2 flights a day into Ancona. Alternatively, you can fly into Bologna, Roma, Pisa (Easy Jet, Ryan air, British Airways, Veuling, Al Italia) or Florence (Air France from London City or Veuling and British Airways), or Pescara (Ryan Air from Stansted) or Rimini. All these airports are within a few hours drive of the villa. We recommend skyscanner.net for flight comparisons. Car rental with Hertz or Avis is recommended – you can book with them online – cars can be picked up at all of the above airports. More about getting here.
DO YOU HAVE ANIMALS ON THE FARM?
We are a fruit and olive oil farm. We have chickens and your children can go and collect an egg and meet the chickens or pick their own raspberries when they are in season. We also have a friendly chocolate Labrador called Charlie.
CAN WE GO FOR A WALK FROM THE VILLA?
There are several lovely walks from the villa – to the local village (20-30 mins) or around the surrounding countryside – and there are easy tracks and breathtaking views – something for all ages.
There are also proper woods close by for budding explorers. We are surrounded by rolling hills and unspoiled countryside, on a walk you may be lucky enough to also see lizards, geckos, wild flowers (including many varieties of wild orchid), deer, hare, rabbits, boar, porcupines, up to 40 species of butterfly and various birds of prey.
CAN WE HIRE BIKES?
Yes, of course, there is a very friendly, convenient bike hire place in Gubbio (just a 25 min drive from the villa). There you can hire decent mountain bikes, together with safety helmets. You can hire road bikes in Perugia – some companies will also deliver to the villa. The terrain here is mountainous and offers exciting, but rather challenging riding – the area is not really suited for young children or people unused to riding a bike regularly. If you prefer a less challenging ride – then we suggest a lovely day out for all the family would be to hire bikes for the day and tour lake Trasimeno for the day – where the terrain is very scenic and much less challenging – here you can hire a bike for the day.
WE DON’T DRIVE – IS IT PRACTICAL TO STAY WITHOUT A CAR?
You can walk on a path to the small village of Carbonesca in 20 minutes – there is a bar there and a general store that offers a selection of deli items, fruit and veg and general groceries.
We also offer an arrival shop option – so you can choose from a variety of items (including beer and wine) to be waiting for you in your apartment. You can also order lasagne any night of the week. We also offer bread and croissant delivery daily except Sunday – so you won’t be without supplies. You can also walk to the larger village of Casacastalda – a 40 min walk …there are several shops, chemist, post office, bars and a good children’s playground. Taxi’s can be booked for days out – if, however, you plan to go out everyday and wish to see lots of the sights and hill towns – it is best to hire a car as we are in a rural location with little by way of public transport. If you are looking for rest and relaxation with a day or 2 out – then we are perfect for your stay without needing to hire a car.
WE WANT TO GO OUT/HAVE SOME TIME OFF – ARE THERE CHILD CARE OPTIONS?
You can book child care children in the evening if you wish to enjoy a night out.
WHAT CHILD EQUIPMENT DO YOU PROVIDE?
