We can arrange for someone to clean, change beds, do the washing up or washing and ironing – whatever you require at any time during your stay. Maid service charges are €16 an hour with a minimum 2 hour booking.
We don’t want to cook – what are the options?
The Tavernetta – our on site restaurant is open 2 nights a week, delicious lasagne can be ordered any night of the week, the local shops (5 mins by car) offer a good deli, bakery & cheese shop, there is also a good local butcher & grocer and you have your own gas BBQ, the local pizza place (take out available) and a great local restaurant are both just 8 mins by car. There are a wealth of good restaurants in and around Gubbio within a 15- 25 min drive. We also offer delicious fresh bread and croissant delivery 6 days a week in time for breakfast. See our no need to cook page for further information.
Is your pool safe – gated and fenced?
Our pool is gated (automatic) swing shut gate and fenced for safety- to stop little ones getting in and out. The pool is also set back into the hillside (in a lovely south-facing sun trapped position) so that it is separate from the play area and rental properties. We also have brand new anti-slip paving around the pool – so even the smallest of tots can walk safely around the pool and the terraces. Find out more about the pool.
Is the pool heated?
We have a splash pool for younger children that has solar heated water – so is a nice temperature for younger ones to play in all day. The main pool isn’t heated – but usually maintains pleasant swimming temperatures of 22-28 degrees throughout the summer months.
How do I get to the Villa?
The nearest airports are Perugia and Ancona – Ryan Air fly from London Stansted to both these airports. (Perugia flights are only in July or August on Saturday) There are 2 flights a day into Ancona on Saturday. Alternatively, you can fly into Bologna, Roma, Pisa (Easy Jet, Ryan air, British Airways, Veuling, Al Italia) or Florence (Air France from London City or Veuling). All these airports are within a few hours drive of the villa. We recommend skyscanner.net for flight comparisons. Car rental with Hertz or Avis is recommended – you can book with them online – cars can be picked up at all of the above airports. More about getting here.
Do have animals on the farm?
We are a fruit and olive oil farm. We do have chickens and your children can go and collect an egg and meet the chickens or pick their own raspberries when they are in season. We also have a friendly Labrador.
Can we go on a walk from the villa?
There are several lovely walks from the villa – to the local village (20-30 mins) or around the surrounding countryside – there are easy tracks and breathtaking views – something for all ages.
There are also proper woods close by for budding explorers. We are surrounded by rolling hills and unspoiled countryside, on a walk you may be lucky enough to also see lizards, geckos, wild flowers (including many varieties of wild orchid), deer, hare, rabbits, boar, porcupines, up to 40 species of butterfly and various birds of prey.
Can we hire a bike?
Yes, of course, there is a very friendly, convenient bike hire place in Gubbio (just a 25 min drive from the villa). There you can hire decent mountain bikes, together with safety helmets. You can hire road bikes in Perugia – some companies will also deliver to the villa. The terrain here is mountainous and offers exciting, but rather challenging riding – the area is not really suited for young children or people unused to riding a bike regularly. If you prefer a less challenging ride – then we suggest a lovely day out for all the family would be to hire bikes for the day and tour lake Trasimeno for the day – where the terrain is very scenic and much less challenging.
We don’t drive – is it practical to stay without a car?
You can walk on a path to the small village of Carbonesca in 20- 30 minutes – there is a bar there and a general store that offers a selection of deli items, fruit and veg and general groceries.
We also offer an arrival shop option – so you can choose from a variety of items (including beer and wine) to be waiting for you in your apartment. You can also order lasagne and our restaurant is open 2 evenings a week. We also offer bread and croissant delivery daily except Sunday – so you won’t be without supplies. You can also walk to the larger village of Casacastalda – a 40 min walk …there are several shops, chemist, post office, bars and a good children’s playground. If, however, you plan to go out everyday and wish to see lots of the sights and hill towns – please bear in mind, we are in a rural location with little by way of public transport – so you may prefer to stay in a town… That said if you are looking for rest and relaxation with a day or 2 out – then we may well be perfect for you!
We want to go out/some time off – can I book childcare?
Yes – we have a pool of tried and trusted local ladies – most of whom are mother’s themselves.
You can book them to look after your children in the day – while you relax and have a few hours off, or for an evening out. Rates start at €16 an hour – with a 2 hour minimum.
For your peace of mind – one of your hosts Paul or Isabel are always at home the evenings when there is a babysitter on site.
