‘Exceptional, relaxing place to holiday with young family

Just back from a fabulous 2 week family stay at Pian Di Cascina – and can’t wait to go back there. Scenery is breath-taking, pool is perfect and there was plenty for the kids (aged 6 & 4) to do, so we had a chance to relax too!  Travel from Surrey was surprisingly straightforward with direct flights to/from Perugia.  Accommodation was really nice – spacious and very comfortable. And having run around and swum all day, the children went straight off to sleep and left us to have some quiet time gazing at the stars from our lovely terrace. Had a couple of trips out to beautiful nearby villages and towns and some amazing pizza and pasta meals. Special thanks to owner Paul for making us so welcome and providing us with delicious fresh breakfast produce each day. We’ll definitely be back!

‘Pian Di Cascina is lovely

Just came back from Villa Pian Di Cascina after a week long break in Umbria with our two kids (2 & 4yrs). I am not normally one to post reviews but we had such a nice time that I felt compelled.

Villa Pian Di Cascina is lovely. The owners (Paul and Isabel) made us feel very welcome and made sure we were well looked after. They really went out of their way to ensure that we were comfortable and the we enjoyed our stay. They even made wonderful cup cakes for our little one’s second birthday. The pre-arrival shop of nappies and other essentials was particularly appreciated.

Our apartment was well appointed and supplied, and had lots of toys/books for the kids. The pool was great for cooling off on the hot days, while the surrounding countryside and the views are beautiful and very Italian. We had lots of fun exploring the local towns, with all the amazing churches, castles and medieval buildings, and the thousand of year of history. All in all a great holiday and a great place to stay. Both Umbria and the Villa Pian Di Cascina I would highly recommend.

‘Best Place – Wanted to stay for ever!

An incredible location up in the Umbrian hills, this place is a true find. Utterly stunning views, beautiful accommodation, comfortable, a great pool, wonderful eat as much as you can pizza evenings, epic lasagne to order any time you want not to cook… and for the kids it was perfect. Toys in the villa, everything you needed from high chairs to brilliantly dark shutters for the nights, an order service for nappies, wipes, grow bags, a cot, groceries whatever you need… the pizza evenings full of families with kids and no pressure to keep them quiet or sitting down!

Everything was spotlessly clean, kept to a really high standard. There was a fantastic playground in a beautiful meadow with great equipment. I cannot, absolutely cannot, recommend Pian di Cascina highly enough. Paul, who owns the place, is an incredible host, friendly, personable, really likeable – full of information, good ideas, a great sense of humour and honestly where their website says they just want you to be able to turn up with your suitcase and they’ll look after the rest – well that’s exactly what they do. We will miss it hugely and we very much hope to be back.

‘Perfect child-centred holiday!

Just returned home from a week at Pian di Cascina. We stayed in the Montefalco chalet which was the smallest I think. Other chalets on the end of the row or by the playground had more outdoor space and grass garden area but it was fine for our needs. Kids (age 4 and 7) had the time of their lives. Stunning mountain location, quiet and peaceful with nothing but millions of stars, rabbits, grass snakes, butterflies, lizards (and even a tiny scorpion) for company … which the kids found brilliant!

Each morning Paul delivered fresh croissants, milk and bread from the bakery in Casacastalda, a village 40 mins walk/ten min drive away. Casacastalda also has a perfect playground among the trees, as well as a butcher, grocer and a friendly bar /cafe where we sometimes had coffee in the mornings and Aperol Spritz sundowners in the evening. We had half the week on foot and hired a car for the other half (with the odd very affordable taxi in between). This suited us fine.

We walked out to Locanda Aquasanta one night for dinner (90 min slow walk), did a 30 min walk into Carbonesca another evening for an ice cream (again there is a good playground, friendly local bar/grocery and plenty of opportunities to practice our bad Italian with locals). In the evenings we saw a number of locals walking the beautiful countryside road, it felt safe with kids. Poppies and bright wildflower verges everywhere.

30 min drive to Gubbio, 50 to Lake Trasimeno (Sualzo beach is a perfect day trip with kids with its lido, cafe, pedaloes and toilet/showers). We met some great other families, kids made friends and the pool was lots of fun. It is very quiet at night but I can imagine if the Tavernetta was open (it was closed during our stay) our chalet (which was next door, our patio just departed by a wisteria and ivy screen) could have felt quite loud/intrusive. Other chalets are further away if you like silence for your kids to sleep.

Paul was a great host, funny, helpful and the perfect amount of helpful/available but gave us all the space we needed. Kids fell in love with Charlie the gentle brown Labrador. We flew into Ancona, much cheaper than Perugia, and had a couple of nights in beautiful Fano on the Adriatic coast. On the way home we had a night in Senegallia and enjoyed staying out late and getting the Italian vibe eating out in the square which was full of families enjoying themselves. I would highly recommend Pian di Cascina for a very child-centric break which is relaxing and surrounded by nature.

Wonderful family holiday in a stunning setting’

What a fabulous place to stay, especially for anyone with a young family. Having searched for hours online looking for myself, husband and 2 year old, I couldn’t quite find anywhere else that ticked so many boxes for one holiday. Pian di Cascina have thought of everything to make a family stay comfortable and have so many added extra touches such as books, puzzles and games to keep the little ones occupied. They have an expansive lawned play park area and great toddler splash pool which is shaded. It was a great combination of being catered for with handy home cooked meals on request and two restaurant nights, with the ability to BBQ ourselves, get take away pizza and cook too. The restaurant nights were such a treat. The food was incredible and it was so good to enjoy such a great dinner whilst our toddler played happily with some of the other guest’s little ones. Many of the ingredients were fresh from their farm and it was impressive to have a view of the cows who provided the ricotta we were enjoying! It is well positioned for more days out than you could possibly manage in one holiday, so we were spoilt for choice in that respect as well. Great service and advice on hand. I think this place is very unique and we would highly recommend it. Their website is great and if you like the look of it then you won’t be disappointed!

‘A charming touch of wild in Umbria

We highly recommend this fantastic holiday destination. We had a wonderful week with our children who are age 3 & 5. We ordered fresh baked goods for breakfast every morning, had two amazing evening meals in the on-site restaurant, the children enjoyed the amazing outdoor playground and we played lots of outdoor games as a family. The swimming pool is fantastic and relaxing, with spectacular scenery. In the current climate the whole facility was so safe it was a break from current pandemic.

As parents it was great to find a holiday where we could relax and unwind surrounded by nature while the children had such a wonderful time. The accommodation had a great selection of toys and book’s. We made fantastic memories, made friends with other guests, left feeling relaxed and recharged, and we have already booked to visit again.

‘A charming touch of wild in Umbria

This was one of our most memorable stays. Located in a charming and untouched part of Umbria, near a quaint and quintessentially Italian village we had a wonderful stay. Gorgeous location, beautiful views, amazing pool, like minded families. The dinners prepared by Isobel and Paul were perhaps the best meals of our life- and we’ve had our fair share of fine dining. Great recommendations and local knowledge provided by the hosts also helped make for some amazing adventures!

Beautiful, child-friendly Italian retreat’

My husband, 2 children (7 years and 4 years), and I spent a wonderful week in the Villetta Villa. We easily took a flight from Gatwick to Ancona Airport (about 2 hours), then a 1 hr 20 mins drive.
We arrived at 5 pm to the most beautiful scenery at the villa in the mountains and we were greeted by Paul, he showed us around and then checked on us later on, as he did twice a day. We were able to easily contact him with any concerns. We had a delicious lasagne, bread, and prosecco ready for us – which was perfect.

The Villetta villa is well placed to see the play park, which is fabulous, amazing zip wire. My children loved the ability to run over with independence and they met some lovely friends (as did we), which really added to our holiday. It felt very safe. The villa also had many toys which were great for one more rainy afternoon. Very spacious and extremely clean and everything needed for self-catering.

The nights at La Tavernetta were wonderful. Isabel cooked the most amazing food, and both Paul / Isabel were fabulous hosts – they clearly love meeting new people and are very proud of this wonderful place they have. There is a fab climbing frame beside where you eat which is great for kids, really special evenings.

What I really loved in this place was it felt closer to nature in this crazy busy consumer world we have with little regard for the earth. The children were running around a beautiful playfield with friends. It was away from big commercial hotels, and I felt more mindful there of everything we did. It was also environmentally friendly.

Wifi did work for emails, photos, etc, however this was a time for us to put away our phones / work emails.

It was a time to kick back, relax, eat good food and drink prosecco with new friends, in a beautiful, clean place with all the wildlife, fresh air in the morning to glorious sunshine to an occasional thunderstorm. A holiday I will remember in particular for my children in years to come.

There are also plenty of places to visit. We took a trip every day for a couple of hours and enjoyed this aspect to explore. The website gives an accurate description of everything and there is a brilliant book in your villa.

Thank you Paul and Isabel – We will be back !!

‘Fantastic Family Holiday’

We had a relaxing family holiday with 3 children of 5 and under. A beautiful setting, comfortable and spotlessly clean accommodation and a huge amount of thought given to making things easy for families. The restaurant nights were a real highlight. A great place, we would return. There is still a lot we didn’t do in the area as we spent so much time by the pool and in the play area.

‘Amazing Family Vacation’

We can not say enough good things about Villa Pian. The owners have thought of everything to make this feel like a home away from home.

We stayed in two different villas on our visit and both had plenty of space. The toys in the apartments and play areas around the grounds were amazing and kept our little ones occupied for hours. The pool was beautiful and the covered kid’s pool was an added bonus.

We were able to attend the onsite dinner, which was phenomenal. The location is also great for day trips to the little towns around the area. If we ever come back to the region we will not hesitate to stay at Villa Pian…in fact we are trying to think of an excuse to come back and bring more family. This is by far one of the best family vacations we have had and we are beyond thankful for the hospitality and amenities provided at Villa Pian. Thank you.

‘3 Wonderful Weeks’

My wife discovered the Villa Pian Di Cascina online. After reading the online reviews and looking at the pictures our expectations were sky high. During our three week stay, all those expectations were met or exceeded.

Living in San Francisco, our journey to the beautiful farmhouse took a little longer than most of the other guests. But it was well worth the effort – even with a three-year-old and 5-month-old in tow.

The setting is stunning (as you can see from the pictures), and the facilities are first rate and perfect for kids. A few things, however, really made our stay exceptional.

Paul and Isabel are remarkable hosts. We felt like we were staying with friends, especially by the end of our visit. They were attentive to all our needs and always happy to answer questions or simply chat about life in Italy. In every room is a book, written by the couple, with a surplus of information about kid friendly outings in Umbria. But in addition to that, they always had friendly tips for wherever we mentioned we might be headed that day. Being parents themselves, their insider knowledge of kid-friendly activities was extremely helpful. Paul and Isabel’s children were also generous of spirit, inviting our elder daughter to play with them quite often.

All the children at the villa, and there were lots, got to know each other and had a wonderful time playing together in the pool or on the playground. Thanks to the wonderful layout of the property and the other kids, our three-year-old found the courage to be truly independent for the first time during our stay. Each morning and evening she would venture our the front door of our room to check if there were any kids on the playground. If there were, she would charge out across the lawn to join them on the swings or multiple climbing structures.

Another high-point at the Pian Di Cascina for us were the meals cooked by Isabel and served by Paul and the fantastic staff. We had some amazing meals during our stay in Italy, but Isabel’s cooking was far-and-away the best. Paul always had excellent wine recommendations to accompany the food. We anxiously awaiting Isabel’s forthcoming cookbook.

Before children, my wife and I were usually on the move when we traveled, staying in one place for a few days at most. So when we booked three weeks at the Villa Pian Di Cascina we were a little apprehensive about being in one spot for so long. After our three weeks there, we both agree, would could have happily spent another three weeks. It was absolutely lovely.

‘We Keep Coming Back’

We’ve now been here 5 times and it just gets better and better every year. As ever, literally nothing to fault.

Our 5 year old enjoyed the little slide at the pool and the wine tasting down at the local restaurant was great fun: nice addition.

The food in the restaurant seems to get better each year – the truffle lasagne now has a rival for our affections in the slow cooked beef dish!

Perfect fortnight in Umbria. Recommend this place to anyone that is looking for a top-quality family place in the real Italy.

‘Wonderful’

We have just returned from a wonderful 2 week break at Villa Pian Di Cascina. As it was our first holiday with our little one, we were mindful of how it was going to be but both Isabel and Paul have everything you would possibly need.

The location itself is in a beautiful setting up in the hills but still close enough to local shops. Umbria as a region is untouched and you get the feeling of central Italy hundreds of years ago. There are plenty of toys and games in the villas and anything you need from baby baths to high chairs is available. Paul pops round everyday asking for your bread order so that you have freshly baked bread and croissants each morning and 2 times a week Isabel cooks a fantastic 4 course dinner which you can enjoy at their restaurant or as we did on your terrace.

The whole set up is really well done and both Paul and Isabel find a great balance of being there if you need something but not being intrusive.

It made for a wonderful first holiday with our little one and we will certainly be back.

‘Faultless holiday experience’

Nothing is too much trouble for this family run boutique Villa…The place is certainly geared up for families, and our 3 children (aged 9, 7 & 1) had fun not only in the playground, and sand pits, but also the pool (with exceptional views). They even had a small splash pool to accommodate babies. Pian Di Cascina is an excellent base to explore rural Umbria and we found the local knowledge of good places to go not only in the guide books provided but also by Paul and Isabel (the owners). Freshly baked bread and croissants were delivered each morning, the ability to have stress busting massages each week, and twice each week dinning on the terrace with stunning views was a bonus. Pian Di Cascina is a special place with a great vibe. Every effort is made to make sure that your accommodation is suitable to the age range of those staying. In fact we felt that our children had more age appropriate games, films, books in our villa than they do at home! You really feel like you are staying with old friends who make you feel so welcome to share in their little piece of paradise.

‘Fantastic family holiday’

We visited Pian Di Cascina for 2 weeks for our children (5 and 2) and had the most perfect family holiday – our first ever relaxing holiday with the kids in tow.
Right from the outset of the booking process, Isabel & Paul were accommodating, helpful and a pleasure to deal with. They dealt with our inquiries promptly, were flexible and we loved the fact they give you an option to send a pre-holiday shopping list to avoid a supermarket trip in the first few days – plus the option to pre-order delicious homemade lasagna. They really have gone the extra mile to make guests’ stay as enjoyable and stress free as possible.

The accommodation is of a high standard, clean, well equipped and furnished and set in the most beautiful, unspoilt Umbrian countryside. You really feel like you’ve escaped day to day living. We had one week in Gubbio and one week in Cascina and both were wonderful. The shared facilities are also fantastic – the playground has something to suit all kids’ tastes: mine especially loved the tarmacked “racing track” and selection of side on cars/scooters, plus lovely chill out areas for the adults. It’s naturally shaded so kids can play at any time of the day and was great for sundowners with other families. The pool was beautiful – overlooking the stunning countryside – gated, with plenty of sun beds and shade, a brilliant splash pool for kids (shaded), and even a mini slide into the pool.

We ate at the Taverna every night it was open during our stay and loved it. Isabel is an incredible chef and the food was amazing. There’s a great table with toys to occupy kids and Isabel even bought over toys to entertain our tantrumming 2 year old one evening so I could eat in (relative) peace.

The area itself has lots to do – you can be as lazy or active as you want. Highly recommend the local waterpark.

Thank you Paul & Isabel – we will be back!

‘Beautiful and peaceful setting, brilliantly set up for families’

We loved our stay at Villa Pian Di Cascina. The setting is absolutely beautiful and so peaceful. The apartment (we stayed in Pinolo) was really well kitted out and Paul and Isabel had thought of everything in relation to travelling abroad with a baby, making things really easy. The food, service, and setting of the onsite restaurant, La Tavernetta, was first class – a real highlight. Paul and Isabel were excellent hosts, friendly and helpful, and full of local knowledge. We’ll be back!

‘a wonderful memorable truly relaxing holiday’

We had a wonderful 8 days at Pian di Cascina. The directions to find the farm were perfect. The information in the house very helpful. The house was very comfy and had all we needed, equipped with useful and good quality items. Paul and Isabel were very welcoming and extremely helpful, and on hand if we needed any information during the week. The location, up in the Umbrian hills, was really beautiful and peaceful – an ideal place to unwind and slow down. The grounds were pretty and yet not too pretentious and the pool was superb, really refreshing in the heat. This was a holiday that we will not forget and which we will think of often and I hope a place we may return too.

‘A totally wonderful place to stay’

Everything about our holiday was 1st class. The accommodation and the service provided was the everything you could ask for and the local area provided lots of interesting places to visit. We travelled with our 22 month old and she was very well catered for. As well as the basics required for being away with a toddler there were toys and books provided for her to play with. We will most definitely be returning.

‘amazing honeymoon’

My husband and I stayed here for a week in late Aug/early September for our honeymoon. What a perfect choice! The accommodation was fabulous and amazing views of the countryside. The restaurant that Isabel and Paul run two nights of the week is sensational. It was the best food we ate Italy. And we can both highly recommend the cookery lesson with Isabel. The pasta machine has been dusted down and is back out the cupboard and being used!

Thanks again Isabel and Paul for a truly memorable honeymoon.

‘Wonderful location for a family holiday’

What an amazing surprise. … A small village yielding a very small road up a very steep hill. You get a perfect Umbrian farmhouse with a stunning view and a superb level of cleanliness and service. have stayed in some Of the finest hotels – but this is EXACTLY what we were hoping for. No pretension; no fuss. Immediately the children and us felt this was our house; by day 2 they were planning “what we will do next time we are here”…
The countryside is beautiful… The villas are perfectly placed to see the valley and the hills… The farm immaculate – the pool perfect (if cool) ….
The rooms are simple and Unfussed…all the facilities are there though- each bedroom with a bath / shower and the kitchen with all equipment…The restaurant is superb …. Book in advance … And ask for it to be on your terrace if you wish….! Truly – a great meal – and to key the children play in the superb facilities during dinner …. So decadent ….
Look forward to coming back soon

‘Wonderful location for a family holiday’

We have just returned from a wonderful fortnight at pian di cascina. The villa itself was well equipped with everything you need for a family holiday – clean, well furnished, excellent showers. Our villa had amazing views over the appennine hills.
Lovely large pool shared with the other villas at the farm, and plenty of space to chill out in – the games field was an asset enjoyed by all four of us. A highlight for us was the on site restaurant la tavernetta – very very good food prepared 2- 3 times per week – don’t miss it
All in all, highly recommended – we hope to return one day

‘I would rate this as one of the best places we have stayed in Italy.’

We will recollect the peaceful ambience of Pian di Cascina as one of Italy’s ‘special ‘places. A home from home comfort with all the convenience of interesting towns and cities to warm the heart as only Italy can.
The excellent swimming pool leisure area provided a welcome break from the many excursions available. Paul and Isabel were wonderful hosts . How they cope with fulfilling all the needs of their guests is a lesson in multitasking indeed, but served to make one feel as comfortable and welcome as you could wish.
Why try to find something better when Pian di Cascina ticks all the boxes, How we will remember the sunset over the peaceful valley and the welcome presence of freshly baked bread or croissants in the morning,
Isabel’s wonderful cuisine and knowledge of ALL the ingredients would put Raymond Blanc to the test. Definitely one to consider and definitely one for a return visit.

‘Wonderful place, beautiful location, great hosts.’

Stayed as a couple and were thrilled to find such a special place – lovely, spacious rooms, a welcome meal, surprisingly cheap yet delicious local produce supplied in the kitchens (nice prosecco), great pool (with only ever a few residents to share it, if any)… the owners are a most considerate and helpful host couple, one who will readily going beyond the call of duty where necessary. We’re very grateful for their invaluable help during our stay, and we and would heartily recommend this memorable and tranquil country residence for a reliably excellent holiday. (It’s also conveniently close, by car, to many local day trip attractions)

‘Fabulous hosts, beautiful location and luxurious facilities’

Pian Di Cascina was booked as a relaxing breakaway and surpassed all expectations. The location of the property and the high quality service made our first Umbrian experience one to remember. The thoughtful extras of pastries in the morning to a carefully selected basket of delicious local produce aided our relaxation. Isabel and Paul were truly welcoming and fantastic hosts and went the extra mile to ensure that we had the break we were looking for. We cannot wait to return next year with the children.

‘Just superb!’

Well we have just returned from our second visit to Pian Di Cascina and it was even better than the first !! Everything was catered for to a very high standard. Our 5 year old had the time of her life swimming in the pool, playing with the numerous toys in the playground and playing with Ben the owners son! The restaurant is truly wonderful, the villas brilliantly equipped , the location stunning! Paul and Isabel go out of their way to make sure your stay is everything you want it to be – it appears nothing is too much trouble. We would most definitely recommend Pian Di Cascina as a great family holiday destination.

If they can make all 20 of us feel this welcome…’

I stayed at this wonderful place with all 20 and a half of my extended family. (my sister has one on the way). There was my mum and dad, my brother and two sisters, all our partners and all our kids. The ever helpful, always cheerful Paul and Isabel made our two weeks an incredibly special time.
The food was wonderful, the location is truly spectacular, the facilities are gorgeous, but what really sets this place apart – in a land full of lovely buildings and beautiful views – are the hosts. Paul and Isabel were just lovely. In fact, their 2 year old son Ben even helped by playing with our 3 year old. Admittedly their newborn, Lucy, couldn’t quite join in yet ? The owners helped out when we crashed our car by negotiating with the locals, they helped my brother get his lost laptop back from his hotel in Rome, they even gave us the secret truffle lasagne recipe to make at home. You can’t be more welcoming or helpful.
Pian di Cascina is perfect for families, quiet enough for couples, and we could not have been more pleased. I’m actually writing an article on the place for a magazine “Holidays with Kids” in Australia, and won’t hesitate to send it to them when it is published. Book now, stay here as soon as you can, wonderful, book now, book now,
BOOK NOW.

‘From the moment we arrived and watched the kids run down to the pool
from our terrace with the Appenine mountains in the background …
I knew we’d picked the right place in Pian Di Cascina.’

The pool became a main feature of our stay, lovely and large for the kids but with nice shade for the adults. The apartment was spotlessly clean and well equipped, a cool haven away from the hot part in the middle of the day. Paul & Isabel’s local knowledge and fluent Italian helped us plan our stay which included a mindblowing 7 course dinner at a local Agriturismo. Nothing was too much trouble and the guidebook Paul & Isabel put together would be enough to keep anyone happy. Our week was over far too quickly and we’re already planning our next visit, hopefully for longer this time. We’ve so often been disappointed when places don’t live up to the pictures and descriptions but Pian Di Cascina isn’t one of them, a truly lovely location.
